About Haff & Hawf Books

At Haff & Hawf Books, our mission is to craft engaging materials to help families support their child's growth and development. 

We are committed to:

  • Representing diversity in our stories and images.

We are Mary Catherine (the American "haff"), and Pete (the British "hawf") who are driven by a love of learning and over 27 years of combined experience in the education field.

Mary Catherine Hillman

Mary Catherine Hillman Author of But How Will I Say Hello

Mary Catherine Hillman is an educator with over 18 years experience in the field.  She received her Master of Arts in Elementary Education and a special education certificate as well as a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership.  Mary Catherine has taught a variety of grades at the early childhood level, as well as pragmatic language groups and struggling readers and is passionate about helping students learn to read, write and become lifelong, joyful learners. 

 

 

Pete Hillman, Ed. D.

Pete Hillman was born and raised in the United Kingdom where he served in the Scots Guards.  After moving to the United States, he taught middle and high school science, as well undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry, biology and science education.  He received his doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University. Pete is currently a Professor of Biology.  He is a passionate advocate for improving STEM education quality and access.
